illustratror cs5

video one which was " getting started gs:  what is illustrator CS5?" was an introduction to what ILLUSTRATOR is. Illustrator is basically a graphic translator. it allows you to edit your artwork at any time, allowing you to make updates to your project at any time. its size can also be changed, while it will still be change and sharp. file formats can be moved into illustrator. such examples that were given were, PDF's. EPS, and poster files. the program also allows to create cross-media design, which allows you to pick what way your artwork is shown, such as on print, on the web, and even for the phone. it will assist me to create a newsletter by allowing me to create images for the newsletter, such as an illustration for it.

the next video was called " Creating files for print. it explains the features that we  use for when we print out files, such as size ( which also gives you paper sizes of other parts of the world". you can set the width and heights, and illustrator will do most of the calculations for you, such as if points are set, and you type 5in, the program will change it for you in point form. it also tell us of bleed, which allows us to expands the  color near the corners, so no white area will appear. lastly it explains of advance settings, such as the color mode, and that it should be set to CMYK, raster effects, which is set to high and that certain programs such as shadowing gets used on it., and preview mode, which can be changed depending on how you are printing the paper. it will assist me by showing me how to print out the newsletter in an organized fashion.

Nameplate: containing the name of the newsletter itself. it could contain a logo, as well as a subtitle, or motto. basically the introduction to the news paper.

Content: information of the subject the nameplate explained about, which is meant to keep the reader interested in the topic, as well as excited to find out more. # of articles and entires play a role in this as it allows the reader to pick what part of the topic they are most interested in.

Table of contents: it is a way in order to allow the reader to find the information they wish to find in an easy fashion, as well as to keep track of where to find the information, and how far it spreads out in the newsletter.

Masthead: basically includes the staff who worked on the newsletter, as well as informations about locations explained, and directions. normally found in second page but can be anywhere.

Titles and headers: grabs the attention of a person to that article. could be humorous, or serious depending on the newsletter.  should be short and straight to the point.

Page #: numbers the pages of the newsletter, allowing people to keep order as well as find certain articles which they are looking for

bylines: basically gives credit to who wrote the article or took the photo.

Continuation lines: explains that the topic is continued on the next page, or that the topic is continued from the last page.

Johana's Brochure.

informative about her company, clear. was given a good idea of what technical digital services ( the name of her company) does, which is create custom skins as well as skins a person would like to use, and place them on vehicles, posters, and etc. Johan's uncle is the owner if this establishment. explains about its prices, what can be done with the image we give them, and some examples of custom jobs made on cars. along with the prices for each service. i would have liked to see a bit more imformation on how exactly i would go about bringing the picture in, if there are any limits to what type of images i can use . picturea seem slightly unalined with the line limits.

Narratives...

Lab_2: what we basically did with this lab is that we experimented with the paint brush, the pencil tool, the mixed brush tool the specialty brush tips tool, and the pattern stamp tool. The things that we used the paint brush tool for was to test its opacity and the effects of overlapping it (notice that certain spots are darker, which  is where they overlapped.  With the pencil tool we make two zigzag lines  one at 0% opacity, the other at 50% opacity, allowing one to notice the difference. We also used the pencil tool to makes a straight line which could be done easily with the pencil tool. We used the mixed brush tool to create different types of strokes. I did not manage to get the other ones, which is due to the fact that I was not able to understand all the componts at the time making me take longer the I had to before I got it. I know however understand it after reviewing their functions.
